Akira Toriyama recently revealed the names of Android 17 and Android 18 with some backstory on their lives in a Q&A in Shueisha’s Saikyō Jump.



Before Dr. Gero transformed them into cyborgs Android No. 17 was a human called Lapis and his twin sister No. 18 was called Lazuli. Their name when combined form a pun called Lapis lazuli which is a rich blue, semi-precious stone, meaning their names are essentially “Stone” and “Blue,” respectively.


Before the androids died they were a menace, they eventually mellowed out after coming back to life. As we all know Android 18 ends up starting a family with Krillin but not much is known about what her brother ends up doing. In the new Q&A Akira Toriyama ended up revealing what happened to Android 17 after the manga, It was revealed that he ended up becoming a poacher-hating park ranger at a nature preserve and ends up marrying a zoologist with two adopted children. This future becomes at odds with the anime series Dragon Ball GT the sequel to Dragon Ball Z.
